Google Workspace Price Increase & Free AI Features

Google Expands AI Access in Workspace
On Wednesday, Google declared that all AI functionalities within Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Meet are now accessible to Workspace subscribers without additional fees.
However, this expanded access will be accompanied by a $2 monthly increase per user in the standard plan pricing.
Simplified Access to AI Tools
This adjustment streamlines the process of utilizing Workspace AI tools. These include features like concise email summaries, automated note generation, and interactive conversations with the Gemini bot.
Previously, full access to these AI capabilities required a supplementary $20 per user, per month, for the Gemini for Workspace plan, in addition to the $12 monthly fee for the Workspace Business Standard plan.
The revised Workspace Business Standard plan now costs $14 per user each month.
Pricing Timeline
The updated pricing structure is effective immediately for new subscribers.
Current Workspace customers will experience these changes beginning on March 17, 2025.
Notably, small business customers are currently excluded from these pricing adjustments.
Gemini for Workspace Add-on
Subscribers who had previously acquired the Gemini for Workspace add-on will retain access to its features.
However, they will no longer be billed for this subscription after January 31.
Competitive Landscape
This update represents a strategic move in the ongoing competition with Microsoft and other companies.
These competitors are also actively integrating AI capabilities into their core product offerings.
For instance, in November, Microsoft included its Copilot Pro AI features with the standard Microsoft 365 subscription.
