Google Supports COVID-19 Vaccine Programs with Grants & Resources

Google announced a series of initiatives today designed to assist with the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations across the United States. These efforts encompass both financial contributions and the provision of company resources for vaccination programs. The technology leader joins other major companies – such as Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, and Microsoft – in committing assistance to state and local governments, as well as healthcare organizations, to accelerate vaccination rates.
According to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, the company will dedicate $150 million in advertising credits and direct funding to support health organizations and public health authorities in their vaccine education campaigns. Furthermore, Google will facilitate vaccine distribution by offering access to its facilities, including its buildings and parking areas.
Google is collaborating with One Medical and relevant public health bodies to establish vaccination locations in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area of California, Kirkland, Washington, and New York City. Expansion to additional locations within the U.S. is anticipated, contingent upon vaccine supply. The company’s technological resources, notably the Intelligent Vaccine Impact Platform, are also being utilized to optimize the logistical planning for vaccine distribution.
Regarding financial support, approximately $100 million will be allocated through Google’s Ad Grants Crisis Relief program, benefiting organizations like the CDC Foundation and the World Health Organization. An additional $50 million will be directed towards collaborations with public health agencies to deliver vaccine-related resources and information to communities with limited access, as detailed by Pichai. Google.org has pledged roughly $5 million in grants to organizations concentrating on vaccine accessibility for communities of color and those in rural locations, including the Morehouse School of Medicine’s Satcher Health Leadership Institute and the CDC Foundation.
