Google Photos Adds Veo 3 for Enhanced Image-to-Video Creation

Google Photos Enhanced with Veo 3 Video Generation

Google’s most recent video-generation model, Veo 3, is being integrated into Google Photos. This new model, accessible through the mobile app’s Create tab, will empower users within the U.S. to transform their static images into dynamic video clips.

Improved Video Quality

Google Photos currently provides video creation capabilities via its “Photo to video” feature. However, the company asserts that incorporating Veo 3 significantly improves this functionality by delivering higher-quality video output.

This launch also demonstrates Google’s commitment to delivering its cutting-edge AI technology to consumers through its established products. As of May 2025, Google Photos boasted over 1.5 billion monthly active users.

Veo 3's Previous Availability

Initially unveiled in May at the I/O developer conference, Veo 3, with its image-to-video generation capabilities, was made available within the Gemini app in July.

Access was granted to users on AI Ultra and AI Pro subscription plans. These plans allowed for the generation of three videos daily, each bearing both visible and imperceptible watermarks to denote their AI-generated origin.

Bringing Memories to Life

Google envisions users leveraging Veo 3 within Google Photos to revitalize cherished memories, and even to animate older, previously static photographs.

The existing image-to-video functionality, driven by Veo 2, allows users to select a photo and choose between “subtle movements” or a randomized animation via an “I’m feeling lucky” option. The resulting clip is typically six seconds in length and shareable.

Usage and Subscription Benefits

The feature will remain accessible at no cost, though the number of generations will be limited, according to Google. Subscribers to AI Pro and AI Ultra plans will receive increased generation allowances.

It’s important to note that Veo 3 within Google Photos will not support audio, and generated videos will be limited to a duration of four seconds.

The Create Hub

The enhanced photo-to-video feature is located within the Create hub, a newly introduced section in the Google Photos app.

This hub serves as a central location for exploring a variety of creative tools and AI-powered features. These include options to remix photo styles, create collages, assemble montages, generate “cinematic” 3D photos, and produce GIFs from images.
