Google Photos users are now able to view their year-end Recap, a feature mirroring services like Spotify Wrapped. This personalized review allows individuals to revisit their photos from the past year.

The Recap presents memorable moments, enhanced with visual effects and graphics, alongside insightful photo statistics.

New Gemini-Powered Features for U.S. Users

Users in the United States will benefit from a new capability driven by Google’s Gemini AI. This enhancement will identify and showcase your hobbies and other significant highlights from the year.

Introduced initially in 2024, the Google Photos Recap aims to leverage the popularity of data-driven annual reviews, a trend established by platforms like Spotify Wrapped and earlier applications such as Timehop.

This year’s Recap also functions as a testing environment for Gemini, allowing Google to apply the AI to your photo library. The goal is to uncover moments you might enjoy revisiting.

Google states that Gemini models possess the ability to understand the context within your photos, enabling them to extract more detailed information. Specifically, these models are used to pinpoint your primary passion and four additional highlights that defined your year.

Recap Details and Customization Options

The recap provides yearly photo statistics, including the total number of photos, frequently appearing individuals, and, new this year, a count of selfies taken.

Users now have the option to exclude specific people or photos from the Recap. Regenerating the Recap after making these changes will produce an updated version.

Sharing photos and memories from the Recap is simplified through direct integration with social media platforms and other channels.

A new integration with CapCut adds an export button at the Recap’s conclusion, allowing you to transfer it to the photo and video editing application. Further customization is possible using additional Google Photos templates within CapCut.

Sharing and Accessing Your Recap

A new carousel featuring short videos, photos, and collages is included at the end of the Recap. These are designed for easy sharing to group chats or social media.

Direct sharing to your WhatsApp Status is also now possible.

If your Recap doesn’t appear immediately, you can request its generation through an option located at the top of the app.

The Recap will remain accessible within the app throughout December. It can be found either at the end of your Memories carousel or pinned within your Collections tab.

Beyond the annual review, Google Photos will be releasing a series of 2025 highlights throughout the month of December, according to the company.
