Google Lets You Share Gemini AI Assistants (Gems)

Gemini Gems Now Shareable: Expanding AI Assistant Access
Google has recently enabled the sharing functionality for Gemini Gems. These are personalized AI assistants, tailored for specific applications, as was initially revealed on Thursday.
The feature was first introduced last year. It began as a component of the Gemini Advanced subscription service, empowering users to formulate instructions for crafting AI chatbots suited to diverse situations.
Initial Gemini Gems Offerings
Upon its initial release, Google provided pre-built Gems. These included resources like a personalized learning coach, a tool for brainstorming, a career advisor, a writing refinement assistant, and a coding companion.
Now, Google states that you can distribute your Gems to colleagues, friends, or family members with the same ease as sharing a document via Google Drive.
Benefits of Gem Sharing
This expansion in accessibility will broaden the user base for Gems. Not all users engage with the advanced customization options available.
Furthermore, it can minimize redundant effort. Instead of multiple individuals independently developing similar AI assistants, they can simply share a single, consistent resource.
For example, if several coworkers require a similar custom Gemini assistant, sharing a single version eliminates potential inconsistencies arising from individual creations.
Practical Applications for Shared Gems
Google proposes that sharing Gems could be particularly beneficial for collaborative projects. This includes planning family vacations, creating meal plans, or engaging in joint writing endeavors.
How to Share Your Gems
To share a Gem, navigate to the Gem manager within the web application. Then, select the “Share” icon adjacent to the Gem you wish to distribute.
Similar to Google Drive, you retain control over access permissions. You can specify who is authorized to view, utilize, and even edit your Gems.
Gem Availability and Features
Initially available to subscribers of Gemini Advanced, Gemini Business, and Gemini Enterprise across more than 150 countries, Gems were made accessible to all users in March. This update also introduced support for file uploads.
