Google Meet Auto Brightness: Webcam Adjustment in Browser

Improved Visibility in Google Meet Video Calls
Google Meet is preparing to enhance the video call experience for all users. A new capability will be implemented to ensure participants are clearly visible during calls.
The web-based application will now automatically identify instances where a user’s video feed is too dark. This detection is triggered by insufficient lighting conditions.
When underexposure is detected, Google Meet will intelligently adjust the brightness. This adjustment aims to improve the visibility of the individual and potentially enhance the overall video quality, even with lower-quality webcams.
Availability on Mobile and Upcoming Rollout
This low-light mode was initially introduced to the Google Meet applications for both iOS and Android platforms last year. It leverages artificial intelligence to analyze lighting and optimize brightness levels.
While there are no administrative controls for this feature, individual users retain the option to disable it. Google notes that enabling the low-light mode may result in slightly reduced device performance.
Deployment Schedule for Workspace Users
The feature is being extended to all users of Google Workspace and G Suite, encompassing basic and business accounts.
The rollout is commencing today for domains utilizing the Rapid Release schedule. For those on the Scheduled Release schedule, deployment will begin on October 4th.
It’s important to note that the complete rollout process may take up to 15 days for both release schedules. Consequently, by mid-October, users should experience a noticeable improvement in video call clarity on Google Meet.
