Google Meet AI Makeup Feature: Virtual Beauty for Video Calls

Google Meet Introduces AI-Powered Makeup Filter
Google Meet has integrated an artificial intelligence-driven makeup filter, providing users with a convenient option for enhancing their appearance during video conferences.
This new functionality allows individuals to forego applying physical makeup before meetings, offering a quick and easy solution for a polished look.
Competition in the Video Conferencing Space
The introduction of this feature positions Google Meet more competitively against other leading video-conferencing platforms.
Microsoft Teams and Zoom already offer similar virtual makeup capabilities, and Google’s addition aims to level the playing field.
Available Makeup Options
Google Meet currently provides users with a selection of 12 distinct makeup styles to choose from.
These options are accessible within the “Appearance” settings, specifically under the “Portrait touch-up” section.
The “Portrait touch-up” feature, initially launched in 2023, already included functionalities like complexion smoothing, under-eye brightening, and eye whitening.
Realistic Filter Performance
Google emphasizes the stability of the virtual makeup application.
The filter is designed to remain consistently applied, even with user movement during the call.
For example, the makeup will stay fixed on the user’s face and won’t inadvertently transfer to objects like a coffee mug.
User Control and Customization
The AI-powered makeup feature is not enabled by default.
Users have the option to activate it either prior to joining a video call or during an ongoing session.
Once a preferred makeup style is selected, Google Meet will retain this preference for subsequent meetings, streamlining the user experience.
Rollout Details
The rollout of this new feature commenced on October 8th and is available on both mobile and web versions of Google Meet.
This update provides a convenient and customizable option for users seeking to enhance their video conferencing presence.
