AI Mode in Chrome: Easier Access on iOS & Android - Google Update

Google Simplifies Mobile Access to AI Mode in Chrome
On Wednesday, Google announced increased accessibility to AI Mode on mobile devices. Users can now utilize AI Mode, enabling them to pose intricate queries and pursue follow-up questions for in-depth exploration of subjects.
This functionality is directly integrated within Google Search, accessible through a newly implemented dedicated shortcut button positioned beneath the search bar when a “New Tab” page is opened in Chrome.
Expanded Availability
The new shortcut for AI Mode within Chrome is initially being deployed in the U.S., beginning Wednesday. A wider rollout is planned, extending to 160 additional countries and encompassing a broader range of languages.
These languages include Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and several others, signifying Google’s commitment to global accessibility.
Strategic Implications
By streamlining access to AI Mode on mobile platforms, Google aims to encourage user engagement with its own services. This strategy is likely intended to deter users from turning to competing AI-powered tools.
Recent Global Expansion
This shortcut launch follows Google’s recent global expansion of AI Mode itself. The feature is now available in 180 countries worldwide.
Furthermore, support for additional languages has been added, including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, broadening its reach.
Competition and Development
AI Mode was initially launched in March as a direct response to the growing popularity of services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.
Since its inception, Google has consistently enhanced the tool with new features and capabilities.
New Agentic Capabilities
Just yesterday, Google introduced new agentic capabilities within AI Mode. These allow users to receive assistance with tasks such as booking event tickets and scheduling beauty and wellness appointments.
Agentic capabilities were first introduced in August, initially enabling users to find and reserve restaurant tables.
Additional Features
In July, AI Mode launched a Canvas feature. This feature assists users in creating study plans and organizing information across multiple sessions within a side panel.
Users can now also leverage Google Lens to inquire about elements displayed on their desktop screens.
