Google AI Plus Plan Launches in India - Under $5

Google Launches Affordable AI Plus Plan in India
Google introduced a more competitively priced AI Plus subscription in India on Wednesday. This move is designed to challenge lower-cost AI services currently available, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go subscription.
Pricing and Initial Offer
New users in India can now access AI Plus for ₹199 (approximately $2.21) monthly for the initial six-month period. Following this introductory phase, the subscription cost will increase to ₹399 ($4.44) per month.
Benefits of AI Plus
The AI Plus plan provides enhanced usage limits for both Gemini 3 Pro and the Nano Banana Pro image editing model.
Subscribers also gain access to video generation capabilities within the Gemini and Flow applications.
Furthermore, the plan expands access to in-depth research tools within NotebookLM and includes a substantial 200GB of storage shared across Photos, Drive, and Gmail.
A key feature allows subscribers to extend access to family members.
Comparison to Existing Google Plans
Prior to this launch, the most affordable AI subscription from Google in India was AI Pro, priced at ₹1,950 ($21.69) per month.
Competitive Landscape and Timing
Google’s adaptation of its pricing for the Indian market is somewhat delayed. The AI Plus plan was initially released in Indonesia in September and subsequently made available in other regions.
OpenAI launched its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan in India in August, extending its availability to other countries in the following months. This plan offers users ten times the usage limits of the free version for messaging, image creation, and file uploads.
Promotional Activities by AI Companies
Several AI companies are actively offering incentives in India to attract users, leveraging the country’s large population.
Perplexity partnered with telecom provider Airtel to provide its Pro plan free for one year to all Airtel customers.
OpenAI also offered a year of free ChatGPT Go access to both existing and new subscribers.
Google’s Partnership with Reliance Jio
Google collaborated with Reliance Jio to offer its AI Pro plan at no cost for 18 months to users on specific Jio plans.
