Gemini on Wear OS & Google TV: Google's AI Expansion

Google Expands Gemini AI to New Platforms
Announced during the Android Show preceding Google I/O 2025, Google revealed plans to integrate Gemini across Wear OS smartwatches and Google TV. This move signifies a broader strategy to supersede Google Assistant with Gemini throughout its ecosystem of devices and platforms.
The expansion aims to enhance accessibility of the AI assistant, extending its utility beyond smartphones to accommodate users engaged in activities such as exercise or leisure.
Gemini on Wear OS
Wear OS smartwatch users will soon have Gemini available directly on their wrists. This functionality is designed for scenarios where smartphone access is impractical, like during cooking or cycling.
Google emphasizes the natural language processing capabilities of Gemini, meaning precise phrasing isn’t required for effective interaction.
For instance, a user at the gym, having stowed their phone, could utilize Gemini on their smartwatch to establish a reminder – “Remember locker 43 today.” Furthermore, Gemini’s app connectivity allows inquiries about information received via email, without interrupting a workout.
The rollout of Gemini to Wear OS smartwatches is scheduled for the coming months.
Gemini on Google TV
Integration with Google TV will enable users to receive tailored content recommendations. A request for a selection of action films suitable for children is one example of this capability.
Gemini will also function as an information resource, answering user questions. Children, for example, could inquire about the solar system, prompting Gemini to locate and present relevant educational YouTube videos.
The launch of Gemini on Google TV is anticipated later this year.
Expanding to Android XR and Android Auto
Google is also incorporating Gemini into Android XR, its platform for Extended Reality (XR) devices, including headsets and glasses. The initial launch of Android XR, announced in December, will be with the Samsung-developed Project Moohan headset, slated for release this year.
This integration is logical, given prior statements regarding Gemini’s role in controlling the headset and providing information about viewed applications and content.
Guemmy Kim, senior director of product and user experience on the Android team, explained that Gemini can assist with complex tasks like vacation planning, utilizing videos, maps, and local insights to create detailed itineraries within an immersive experience.
Furthermore, Gemini is coming to Android Auto in the coming months. Users will be able to request information such as nearby charging stations along a route, or receive summaries of incoming messages and news updates.
