Pixel 6 First Look: Google Reveals New Smartphone
Google Unveils the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro
Google provided an initial preview of its forthcoming flagship smartphone, the Pixel 6, this morning, though a complete disclosure of details is being withheld for the time being.
Key Features and Specifications
Here's a summary of the information released to date:
- Two models will be available: the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.
- The standard Pixel 6 will feature a matte aluminum construction and a 6.4-inch display.
- Conversely, the Pixel 6 Pro will boast a polished aluminum finish alongside a larger 6.7-inch display.
- The Pixel 6 incorporates a dual-camera system, comprising wide and ultrawide lenses.
- The 6 Pro expands upon this with the addition of a telephoto zoom lens for enhanced photographic capabilities.
The trend of prominent camera bumps continues, now manifesting as a “camera bar.” Google’s Rick Osterloh explained that the larger form factor is necessary to accommodate advanced sensors and lenses.
Introducing the Tensor Chip
These new devices will be the first to utilize the Tensor chip, representing Google’s inaugural fully customized system on a chip.
Previously, Pixel phones relied on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform. Google CEO Sundar Pichai indicated that development of the Tensor chip spanned over four years.
According to a blog post by Osterloh, the primary objective behind the Tensor chip is to optimize performance for on-device artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tasks.
Availability
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are scheduled for release at some point “this fall.”
While specifics regarding pricing and the complete technical specifications – including CPU and RAM details – remain undisclosed, initial reports and leaks appear to be accurate thus far.
