Google Flow: AI Video Creation Tool Launched

Google Unveils Flow: An AI-Powered Video Creation Tool
During its Google I/O 2025 developer conference held on Tuesday, Google introduced Flow, a novel video tool leveraging the power of artificial intelligence specifically designed for filmmaking.
Underlying AI Models
The company detailed that Flow’s functionality is driven by a combination of three of its advanced AI models. These include Veo for video generation, Imagen for image creation, and Gemini for text processing and prompt engineering.
Functionality and Features
Flow builds upon the capabilities of existing video generation tools, allowing users to import existing characters and scenes. Alternatively, these elements can be created directly within the platform itself.
Google previously released VideoFX, a video generation tool under the Google Labs banner. However, Flow is anticipated to attract a broader audience due to its expanded feature set.
Advanced Control and Editing
The tool provides users with granular control over various aspects of video production. This includes features like camera control, enabling adjustments to camera angles and viewpoints within a scene.
A dedicated scene builder facilitates the editing and extension of shots, as well as the direction of the overall scene progression. Furthermore, Flow incorporates tools for efficient asset management.
Flow TV: A Showcase of Creative Prompts
Complementing the launch of Flow, Google is introducing “Flow TV.” This is a curated stream of video clips and content. It will showcase the precise prompts used to generate these videos, offering insights into other users’ creative processes.
Competitive Landscape
Several startups, including Moonvalley, D-ID, Cheehoo, and Hedra, are also developing video solutions within a similar space. Their goal is to democratize access to filmmaking tools and AI-generated content.
While Google’s AI models are often integrated into these third-party tools, Flow signifies Google’s intention to establish a presence in the application layer of the AI video generation workflow.
Availability and Pricing
Initially, Flow will be accessible to users in the United States through subscriptions to Google AI Pro and the newly introduced Google AI Ultra plan.
Google AI Pro subscribers will have access to 100 video generations per month. Google AI Ultra subscribers will receive a higher, yet currently undefined, generation limit. They will also gain access to Google’s most recent video models.
