Google Classroom AI Quiz Questions: New Feature for Teachers

Google Classroom's New AI Question Generator
A novel, AI-driven functionality has been integrated into Google Classroom to assist teachers in the creation of assessment questions. This feature, which became available on Monday, empowers educators to automatically generate question sets from provided textual content.
How the Tool Works
Leveraging the power of the Gemini model, this text-dependent question generation tool allows teachers to upload documents directly from Google Drive or paste text directly into the system. The AI then processes this input to formulate relevant questions.
The generated questions can be conveniently exported in two popular formats: Google Docs and Google Forms, streamlining the assessment creation workflow.
Customization Options
Teachers have access to a range of filters to refine the question generation process. These include specifying the appropriate grade level, the desired number of questions, and the question type.
Question types available encompass both multiple choice and open-ended formats, providing flexibility in assessment design.
Furthermore, educators can indicate the specific skills they wish to assess, such as students’ understanding of figurative language or their capacity for argument evaluation.
Availability and Pricing
Access to this AI-powered feature is currently limited to subscribers of Google Workspace for Education. Two subscription tiers provide access:
- Gemini Education add-on: Priced at $24 per user.
- Gemini Education Premium: Available for $36 per user.
Expanding Gemini Capabilities in Classroom
Google initially introduced Gemini integration into Classroom earlier in 2024. Since then, the functionality has been continually expanded.
Recent enhancements include a tool designed for the automatic creation of vocabulary lists. The AI can also assist with generating lesson plan ideas and providing concise summaries of diverse materials.
These materials can range from student submissions and class notes to valuable student feedback.
