Gemini Features Now Available on Pixel Buds - Google
Google Integrates Gemini AI into New Pixel Buds
Following the pattern established in the previous year’s event, Wednesday’s Made By Google presentation highlighted several new Gemini capabilities.
These included advanced AI-powered photo capture and editing functionalities intended for the upcoming Pixel 10 series, as well as improvements planned for the Pixel Watch 4.
Consequently, anticipation was high for the announcement of Gemini integration within Google’s newest audio products – the Pixel Buds 2a and an updated Pixel Buds Pro 2.
New Features for Pixel Buds 2a
Among the features demonstrated during the event was the inclusion of active noise cancellation within the Pixel Buds 2a.
An AI-driven feature designed to reduce ambient background noise was also presented as a key enhancement for these earbuds.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 Receive Significant Update
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are slated to receive a substantial update introducing innovative gesture controls.
Users will be able to manage incoming communications – accepting or rejecting calls and messages – simply by shaking or nodding their heads.
The integration of AI into both the Pixel Buds 2a and Pixel Buds Pro 2 aims to provide more intuitive and immersive audio experiences.
Pixel Buds 2a
The Pixel Buds 2a are the latest iteration of Google’s A-Series earbuds, representing a more accessible entry point into their earbud ecosystem. These earbuds introduce substantial enhancements, bringing their capabilities remarkably close to those of the premium Pixel Buds Pro.
A key improvement is the inclusion of active noise cancellation. This is a first for the A-Series, as previous models lacked any form of noise reduction. The Pixel Buds 2a now effectively minimize distracting ambient sounds, facilitating clearer communication.
Clear Calling is another new feature, leveraging Google’s AI technology to diminish background noise. This works in tandem with wind-blocking mesh covers on the earbuds, ensuring optimal audio clarity for both parties during calls.
Users can now also benefit from Transparency Mode, previously exclusive to the Pixel Buds Pro. This allows external sounds to blend with the audio, maintaining situational awareness while enjoying music or podcasts.
The Pixel Buds 2a offer seamless Gemini hands-free support. This enables voice-activated assistance for tasks like locating restaurants, obtaining directions, managing emails, and controlling media playback.
Battery performance has been significantly improved, more than doubling the endurance of the original A-Series earbuds.
These earbuds boast a refined design, being the most compact and lightweight A-Series model yet. They are paired with a similarly streamlined charging case.
Durability is enhanced with an IP54 rating, providing resistance to both sweat and water. This makes them suitable for exercise and protection against light precipitation.
A twist stabilizer, borrowed from the Pixel Buds Pro, allows for customized fit adjustments. Rotating counterclockwise secures a snug fit, while clockwise rotation provides a looser, more comfortable feel.
These advancements are reflected in the pricing. The Pixel Buds 2a are available for $130, a step up from the sub-$100 price of the previous generation. They come in two new color options: Hazel and Iris.
Significant enhancements are being rolled out to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which were initially launched last year.
These earbuds now boast Gemini hands-free functionality, as anticipated, alongside a suite of supplementary benefits. A novel feature allows users to answer or reject incoming calls and messages through simple head movements – a shake for acceptance, a nod for decline.
This gesture recognition is facilitated by integrated accelerometers and sensors within the earbuds.
Furthermore, interactions with Gemini can now be extended to other applications. For example, users can add items to a Keep grocery list or schedule appointments directly within Calendar.
Key Features
- Adaptive Audio dynamically adjusts to surrounding noise levels.
- This adjustment minimizes distractions in busy environments.
- It simultaneously maintains awareness of the user’s surroundings.
- Loud Noise Protection automatically reduces the impact of sudden, intense sounds.
- This feature safeguards hearing from potentially damaging noises, like emergency vehicle sirens.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are available for purchase at a retail price of $230 and are now offered in a new Moonstone color option.
It is important to understand that the majority of these new capabilities will not be immediately accessible upon purchase; they will be implemented through a software update scheduled for release later in September.
All current owners of the Pro 2 model will receive this update, unlocking the new features.
Pre-orders for both the Pixel Buds 2a and the upgraded Pixel Buds Pro 2 are currently being accepted by customers.
The Pro 2 will begin shipping on August 28th, while the Pixel Buds 2a will become available on store shelves starting October 9th.
