Gemini in Google Calendar: AI Schedule Management

Google Calendar Integrates AI with Gemini Side Panel
A new, AI-driven Gemini side panel is currently being tested by Google within Google Calendar. This allows users to interact with their schedule in a conversational manner, streamlining tasks like event creation and detail retrieval.
Accessing the Gemini Feature
The functionality is being released as part of Google Workspace Labs, Google’s early access testing initiative. Users can activate Gemini by selecting the “Ask Gemini” icon, positioned in the upper right corner of the Google Calendar interface.
Upon activation, users are presented with pre-defined prompts or have the option to formulate their own queries.
Example Prompts and Capabilities
Gemini might proactively suggest actions such as “Add a lunch event” or “Find the next meeting” scheduled with a specific contact. Selecting “More suggestions” expands the range of available options.
Alternatively, users can input custom prompts. Examples include “When is my next meeting with Emily?” or “How many meetings do I have on Monday?” More complex requests, like “Add a weekly workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 AM,” are also supported.
Streamlining Calendar Management
The core purpose of this integration is to eliminate the need for manual calendar searches and entries. By utilizing Gemini’s conversational AI, users can accomplish tasks more efficiently.
Wider Availability
Google Calendar now joins other Workspace applications – including Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat – in offering a Gemini side panel. The timeline for a broader rollout to all users remains currently unspecified.
