Gogo In-Flight Internet Now Intelsat | Connectivity Update

Rebranding in the Skies: Gogo is Now Intelsat
When next you find yourself seeking internet access during a flight, remember that the familiar name of Gogo is no longer the provider to look for.
Gogo Commercial Aviation, a long-established leader in in-flight connectivity, has undergone a rebranding and is now operating as Intelsat.
Acquisition and Transition
This change follows the acquisition of Gogo Commercial Aviation by Intelsat, a global satellite communications company, in December 2020.
The transaction was a cash-based agreement with a total value of $400 million.
It’s important to note that Gogo as a company continues to operate, but its focus has shifted to providing services for business aviation.
A Decade of In-Flight Connectivity
For the past ten years, Gogo has been a prominent feature of the in-flight experience, collaborating with 17 major airlines to deliver internet services.
While often a source of frustration, the service has demonstrably improved over time.
The Future is 5G
In 2019, Gogo announced intentions to launch 5G in-flight capabilities, and initial antenna testing commenced in June of this year.
Under the Intelsat banner, the commitment to 5G technology remains a central objective.
“The rebranding coincides with Intelsat’s efforts to utilize its extensive global orbital and spectrum assets, its large scale, and strategic partnerships to construct the world’s first global 5G satellite-based software-defined network,” stated Intelsat CEO Stephen Spengler in a recent press statement.
