Google Services Down: Gmail, YouTube, Docs Outage

Update: Several services are now functioning again, although some minor issues persist, such as inconsistencies with the address bar in Gmail. A representative from Google has issued a direct statement regarding the disruption:
The outage impacted a substantial number of Google services for approximately one hour. This downtime occurred during business hours in numerous regions, resulting in a modest decrease in pre-market trading for Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
This event serves as a significant illustration of Google’s extensive influence and the degree to which many of our essential functions – including work, leisure, and household management – rely on a single, privately-owned company. Notably, Microsoft’s Outlook is also currently facing some difficulties.

Initial reports indicate that multiple Google services are currently unavailable. These include Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, Maps, AdWords and AdSense, Google Pay, Google Home, Nest, and Chromecast. Numerous reports have been received from users in Europe, the United States, Canada, India, South Africa, Central and South America, Australia, and potentially other locations.
Monitoring websites are displaying significant increases in service disruptions beginning around 11:30 AM U.K. time.
Google.com remains accessible, although performance is somewhat slow. The same is true for the Chrome browser.
Some believe the problem stems from issues with Google Accounts – which is also experiencing problems – or a broader authentication failure. Even utilizing Google services in incognito mode proved unsuccessful during the peak of the outage.
Currently, there are no official explanations for the cause of these issues – please contact us if you have any information; you can reach me on Twitter here, and I also monitor direct messages and replies. Email is not a preferred method of contact!
This represents an unusual failure for a system that has become a major source of internet traffic and user activity, serving billions of people across Google’s various platforms.
We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
