Salesforce+ and the Evolving Creator Economy

Following the launch of Salesforce+, the streaming platform from Salesforce, Paul Greenberg and Brent Leary of CRM Playaz conducted an interview with Colin Fleming, SVP of Global Brand Experiences at Salesforce. I subsequently sought Brent’s insights on the discussion for this installment of the Gillmor Gang podcast.

A question was posed to Keith Teare regarding the anticipated timeline for the phasing out of third-party data.

Denis Pombriant’s Perspective

Denis Pombriant offered the following observation:

He believes the existence of a creator economy is not in question. However, the substantial investments made by various vendors are contingent upon the expansion of this market beyond its initial foundations. Early forms of online content, such as blogs and podcasts, initially served as extensions of traditional media but struggled when audience trust shifted towards social media as a primary indicator of credibility.

Similarly, newsletters and livecasting platforms may encounter challenges if their perceived value closely mirrors that of mainstream media outlets they aim to differentiate themselves from. Ultimately, audiences may disengage, seeking refuge in fictional narratives.

The Creator Economy as Modern Vaudeville

The creator economy currently resembles a modern form of vaudeville, providing a platform for diverse talents to reach specialized audiences. Genuine success is achieved when a shared understanding of emotional resonance tempers the extremes of partisan viewpoints and the controversies that characterize the current media landscape.

Recent developments, such as the negotiations surrounding Rachel Maddow’s show and the progress on infrastructure deals, suggest incremental progress toward moderation. Maddow is transitioning to a weekly program with potential creator-driven spin-offs, while Congress is pursuing a pragmatic approach, breaking down ambitious agendas into smaller, achievable legislative steps.

The goal is to find common ground – not leaning too far left or right – to safeguard voting rights and protect the interests of the middle ground. A partial victory is preferable to none at all.
