Fortunately, a simple adjustment within the about:config settings can resolve this issue and allow you to utilize your extensions as expected.

The Issue: Extension Incompatibility

After installing a new nightly build of Firefox, verifying the version number is a good first step. However, attempting to install familiar extensions may result in an error message, as illustrated below using the Delicious Bookmarks extension as an example.

This is particularly inconvenient if the extension is one you rely on regularly. A straightforward solution exists to overcome this limitation.

Adjusting the about:config Settings

Begin by typing “about:config” (without quotation marks) into the address bar and pressing “Enter”.

A warning message will appear, cautioning against modifying the about:config settings. Click “I’ll be careful, I promise!” to proceed.

The browser window will then display a page similar to the one shown below.

While the interface may initially seem complex, the necessary change is relatively simple. Right-click within the browser window area and select "New --> Boolean".

A new window will appear, prompting you to "Enter the preference name". Type or paste "extensions.checkCompatibility" (without quotation marks) and click “OK”.

Another window will appear. Ensure the value is set to "false"; if not, select it. Click “OK” again to save the new about:config setting.

The newly configured value will be highlighted in your browser window, confirming the change.

With this adjustment complete, you can now proceed to install your desired extensions. The addons window will display a message indicating incompatibility for each newly added extension.
