Galaxy Labs: Early Access to New Features on Galaxy S7

Exploring Experimental Features with Galaxy Labs
The allure of trying out cutting-edge technology is undeniable, particularly when it involves new software functionalities. Gaining early access to features before their widespread release is a particularly rewarding experience. Furthermore, it provides valuable feedback to software developers, allowing them to assess user interest prior to finalizing new additions.
Recognizing this, Samsung incorporated a feature called “Galaxy Labs” into the international versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. This initiative demonstrates their commitment to user-driven development.
Understanding Galaxy Labs
Features designated as “Labs” are typically experimental in nature. Samsung utilizes this space to introduce innovations without mandating their use, offering access only to those eager to test beta software. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that these features may contain bugs or exhibit unexpected behavior – proceed only if you are comfortable with the inherent risks of beta testing.
To begin, navigate to the Settings menu. Simply pull down the notification shade and select the cog icon.
Scroll down within the Settings menu until you locate “Advanced Features.” While the name may sound complex, it’s quite straightforward. We will guide you through the process.
Accessing Galaxy Labs
Several options are available within Advanced Features, but the target is located at the very bottom. Look for Galaxy Labs. Selecting this will open the experimental feature hub.
A disclaimer will appear, stating that these features are experimental and subject to change, potentially being added, modified, or removed without prior notification. Samsung clearly communicates the provisional nature of these features.
Available Features
Currently, a limited number of options are available:
- Show all apps on Home screen: This option, when enabled for users of Samsung’s default Launcher, eliminates the app drawer, displaying all app shortcuts directly on the home screens, similar to the iOS interface.
- Quick dial: Activating this feature allows users to initiate a call by long-pressing the home button and verbally stating a contact’s name.
To enable either or both of these features, simply toggle the switch to the "On" position.
Beyond the toggle switches, a feedback prompt, “Do you find it useful?” is provided, accompanied by two emoticons – a happy face and a less enthusiastic one. This allows users to directly communicate their experience to the developers.
By participating in Galaxy Labs, you are not only exploring new functionalities but also actively contributing to the evolution of Samsung’s software. Remember to use this power responsibly!
