Founders Fund Raising $3 Billion: Latest Funding News

Founders Fund Nears Completion of Third Growth Fund
According to sources with knowledge of the firm’s operations, Founders Fund is anticipated to finalize fundraising for its third growth fund by the end of March.
The venture capital firm, established by Peter Thiel, is targeting $3 billion in capital, as reported by TechCrunch and Axios.
Fund Focus and Anticipated Demand
This fund is designed to provide further investment into the firm’s already thriving portfolio of late-stage companies. It is projected to be substantially oversubscribed, indicating strong investor interest.
Founders Fund’s prior growth fund, totaling $3.4 billion, reached full investment in early 2022, with allocations to companies such as Rippling, which secured $200 million in funding during April.
Significant Investments and Portfolio Strength
Currently, Founders Fund is spearheading Anduril’s latest funding round, expected to reach up to $2.5 billion and establish a valuation of $28 billion, as detailed by CNBC.
Sources have verified to TechCrunch that the firm’s contribution will represent its largest investment to date.
The allocation of a reported $1 billion investment into Anduril remains unclear in relation to the previously closed $3.4 billion 2022 fund.
Strategic Shift in Fund Sizes
The firm is foregoing the launch of a ninth core fund dedicated to early-stage ventures, as equivalent capital was effectively secured three years prior.
In 2023, Founders Fund reportedly reduced the size of its eighth venture capital fund by 50%, to approximately $1.8 billion, according to Axios.
The remaining $900 million was then allocated to the firm’s core ninth fund.
Growth Fund Attractiveness
This strategic adjustment contributes to the heightened enthusiasm surrounding the new growth fund.
While many multi-stage venture firms are aiming to increase or maintain their fund sizes from the ZIRP-era, Founders Fund is deliberately limiting its fund offerings.
Portfolio Highlights
Investors are keen to participate, given Founders Fund’s impressive portfolio of growth-stage companies.
This portfolio includes prominent names such as Anduril, SpaceX, Stripe, OpenAI, and Figma.
Founders Fund has not issued a comment regarding these developments.
