Founders Factory & Nesta Launch Social Impact Startup Program

New Collaboration to Drive Social and Environmental Startups in the U.K.
Founders Factory, a U.K.-based startup studio, and Nesta, the U.K.’s innovation agency, have announced a collaborative effort to establish new ventures focused on addressing pressing social and environmental challenges within the nation.
Addressing Key Societal Issues
This partnership, branded as “Mission Studio,” will concentrate on critical areas such as reducing obesity rates by half, alleviating loneliness, and significantly decreasing household carbon emissions – targeting a 28% reduction.
The venture builder is designed to complement Nesta’s overarching ten-year mission, which centers on fostering healthier lifestyles and building more sustainable futures for communities across the U.K.
Startup Generation and Diversity Goals
Mission Studio intends to launch three new startups annually through 2024, actively contributing to innovative solutions in these vital sectors.
A strong emphasis will be placed on fostering diversity within the startup ecosystem. The initiative aims to achieve the following representation targets:
- 50% of founders will be women.
- 35% will come from minoritised ethnic backgrounds.
- 15% will originate from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
Statements from Leadership
Claire Morris, Chief Studio Officer at Founders Factory, commented on the potential impact of this collaboration.
Matt Seden, Nesta’s Chief Strategy Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership.
Building on Existing Sustainability Initiatives
This new venture builds upon Founders Factory’s recent introduction of the Sustainability Seed Program. This program is specifically designed to cultivate startups operating within the sustainability and climate-tech spaces.
