AI Tool for Creators | Ideation & Analytics

The Rising Demand for Short-Form Video Content
Short videos are currently experiencing a surge in popularity. Major platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok collectively host billions of video views daily, providing substantial benefits to businesses. This trend places considerable pressure on content creators to consistently produce material to maintain relevance and generate income, particularly with the increasing presence of AI-generated content.
Introducing Palo: An AI-Powered Creator Platform
Jay Neo, a former content lead for short videos at MrBeast, believes AI can empower creators by providing insights into successful content strategies and sparking new ideas. He, along with former Palantir engineer Shivam Kumar and creator Harry Jones, are developing a platform named Palo to assist creators in this endeavor.
Neo's Background and Experience
Neo began his journey with MrBeast at the age of 18, focusing on improving viewer retention. He shared with TechCrunch that he became deeply invested in analyzing various metrics to pinpoint the reasons behind viewership fluctuations.
“My primary focus became understanding retention graphs and identifying why viewers chose to stay engaged or disengage. I meticulously documented these observations, which ultimately led to increased responsibilities in editing and content ideation,” Neo explained.
A particularly successful video, featuring the creator offering to fly people to Paris for a baguette, garnered over 1.8 billion views across different channels and became a template for future MrBeast videos.
From MrBeast to Creaky and Beyond
In 2023, Neo departed from MrBeast and launched several channels under the “Creaky” brand, collaborating with a fellow MrBeast co-writer. These channels quickly achieved over a billion views per month.
These experiences highlighted the importance of both content formulation and data analytics. While building Creaky, the team utilized numerous spreadsheets to track video performance metrics. An advisor then suggested transforming these insights into a product for other creators, leading to the formation of Palo in early 2024.
Palo's Core Features
Palo’s application centers around three key components: an AI-driven ideation and planning tool, comprehensive analytics, and a community forum. The platform integrates with a creator’s existing accounts to analyze their short-form video content and identify what resonates with their audience.
According to Kumar, the startup’s CTO, Palo employs a combination of models to generate a detailed data structure. This structure provides insights into elements like effective hooks, audience sentiment, trending topics, originality, and relevant search terms.
“The inference engine processes these core data points, utilizing a range of leading LLMs to hierarchically organize the information for rapid access, embeddings for semantic retrieval, and various structured data formats,” Kumar stated. “This comprehensive approach allows us to develop a creator persona that accurately reflects their unique style and preferences.”
The AI planner features a conversational interface, similar to a chatbot, enabling creators to ask questions about their content. It can also generate scripts based on established formulas or create storyboards with compelling hooks for visually-focused creators.
Currently, the community aspect of Palo is in its early stages, allowing creators to connect and message each other.
Pricing and Availability
During its testing phase, Palo collaborated with approximately 40 creators boasting over 1 million followers. The platform is now available to creators with at least 100,000 followers, starting at $250 per month, with tiered pricing options for increased usage.
The company has secured $3.8 million in funding from Peak XV’s (formerly Sequoia India) Surge, alongside contributions from NFX and individual investors.
Investor Perspectives
Rajan Anandan, managing director at Peak XV, explained that the firm was introduced to Palo’s team through a mentor of Neo’s. He emphasized the team’s experience within successful creative environments and their technical expertise as key factors in the investment decision.
“Creators are actively seeking tools that streamline their workflow without compromising their unique voice. Jay and his team demonstrated a clear understanding of where true value lies, which solidified our confidence. AI is paving the way for a new generation of identity-aware systems that learn from the most successful creators,” Anandan shared with TechCrunch.
Josh Constine, a former TechCrunch editor and Palo investor, believes the tool can help creators manage the demands of consistent content creation.
“I’ve personally experienced creator burnout, which is why I invested in Palo. The current challenge is that staying current with viral trends and algorithmic strategies requires hours of consuming content, potentially leading to mental fatigue and hindering original thought. This can result in procrastination, creative blocks, and burnout,” Constine noted.
Navigating the AI and Creator Landscape
Palo’s launch occurs amidst ongoing discussions about the role of AI within the creator community. Platforms like TikTok, Meta, and Google are integrating more AI-powered tools for creators. While adoption is growing, figures like MrBeast have voiced concerns about the potential negative consequences for the industry.
A significant challenge in developing AI tools for creators is preventing them from falling into predictable content patterns. Neo acknowledges that Palo aims to guide creators toward potential success while recognizing that impactful videos often stem from intuition and creative instinct.
“Consider a comedian testing new material on stage – they are consciously and subconsciously gathering data on audience reactions. Each performance is an iteration, benefiting from lessons learned in previous shows. We believe AI can offer creators a similar advantage,” Neo explained.
The Importance of Creator Collaboration
Sam Beres, a creator known as Sambucha, stresses the importance of involving creators throughout the development process of AI tools to better understand their needs.
“AI tools often present an overwhelming amount of irrelevant information, ironically hindering creators by causing ‘shiny object syndrome’ and leading to aimless experimentation. Therefore, I strongly advise emerging AI companies to collaborate with creators from the outset, not only for marketing but, more importantly, to shape the product itself,” he emphasized.
