Former Intel CEO Launches AI Alignment Benchmark

Pat Gelsinger's Post-Intel Venture: Focusing on Human-Aligned AI

Following the conclusion of Pat Gelsinger’s extensive, over four-decade tenure at Intel in December, speculation arose regarding his future endeavors.

On Thursday, the former Intel CEO disclosed a significant aspect of his next chapter: a commitment to fostering the development of AI models that contribute to a thriving human society.

Introducing the Flourishing AI (FAI) Benchmark

Gelsinger has partnered with Gloo, a “faith tech” company in which he initially invested approximately ten years ago, to introduce a new evaluation standard.

This benchmark, known as Flourishing AI (FAI), is designed to assess the degree to which AI models are aligned with fundamental human values.

The FAI benchmark’s foundation lies in The Global Flourishing Study, a comprehensive survey spearheaded by Harvard and Baylor University, which aims to quantify human well-being globally.

Core Categories of the FAI Assessment

Gloo has selected six key categories from the study – encompassing Character and Virtue, Close Social Relationships, Happiness and Life Satisfaction, Meaning and Purpose, Mental and Physical Health, and Financial and Material Stability.

An additional category, Faith and Spirituality, was incorporated to broaden the scope of evaluation for Large Language Models (LLMs).

Gelsinger’s Longstanding Interest in Faith and Technology

In a discussion with The New Stack, Gelsinger articulated that he has “operated at the convergence of faith and technology throughout his life.”

This new initiative represents a continuation of that long-held interest, now focused on ensuring AI development benefits humanity as a whole.
