Ford's F-100 Eluminator Concept: A Vintage Truck Reimagined
General Motors isn't the sole manufacturer exploring the electrification of classic vehicles to promote its aftermarket EV motor offerings. Ford has unveiled the F-100 Eluminator concept, a reimagining of a roughly 1978 pickup truck. This upgrade incorporates two of Ford’s recently released Eluminator electric crate motor kits.
Power and Performance
These power units, sourced from the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, collectively deliver 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque to the F-100. While Ford has not yet disclosed specific performance figures or range estimations, it’s reasonable to anticipate impressive acceleration capabilities, potentially surpassing many contemporary sports cars.
Beyond the Powertrain: Customizations
The modifications to this truck extend beyond the electric motors. It features the vertical center-stack touchscreen borrowed from the Mach-E. Additionally, the vehicle showcases custom aluminum Forgeline wheels.
Further enhancements include a billet aluminum dash crafted by JJR Fabrication and avocado-tanned leather upholstery from MDM Upholstery. Despite its classic exterior, the interior appointments are decidedly modern.
Availability and Future Plans
Currently, this particular concept vehicle is not available for purchase. Ford’s primary intention is to encourage customers to acquire the $3,900 Eluminator motor for their individual projects.
The automaker envisions a future where it can provide a comprehensive suite of components for EV retrofits, encompassing batteries, controllers, and traction inverters. At present, purchasing the motor alone is best suited for those with the expertise and resources to manage the remaining aspects of the conversion.
This initiative suggests a potential future where numerous cherished internal combustion engine vehicles can experience a revitalization through EV powertrain transplants.
