Windows Explorer Not Showing File Names in Vista - Fix

Resolving Hidden File Name Issues in Windows Vista Explorer
A common issue encountered by users of Windows Vista involves file names disappearing within specific folders in Windows Explorer. Fortunately, a straightforward solution exists to rectify this problem.
The root cause typically stems from Windows incorrectly identifying a folder as a Pictures folder and subsequently activating the option to conceal file names. This results in an unexpected lack of visibility for file labels.
How to Restore File Names
To address this, begin by right-clicking within an empty area of the affected folder. From the context menu that appears, select “Customize This Folder.”
Within the customization window, navigate to the “Customize” tab. Then, choose “Pictures and Videos” as the designated folder type.
To reveal the necessary options, either display the file menu or simply hold down the Alt key. This action will enable you to deselect the “Hide File Names” option.
Upon deselecting this option, the file names will immediately become visible within the folder.
Returning to Default Settings
After restoring the file names, it is advisable to revisit the “Customize This Folder” menu. Consider changing the folder type back to “All Items” to restore the default folder behavior.
However, this step is optional. The described method can also be intentionally reversed if you desire to conceal file names within a specific folder.
