Lab-Grown Meat for Dogs Now Available in the UK

Cultivated Chicken Treats Now Available for Dogs in the U.K.
Cultivated chicken dog snacks are now being offered for sale by Pets at Home, a prominent U.K. pet food retailer.
Pets at Home is also a significant investor in Meatly, the company responsible for producing the meat ingredient found in The Pack’s Chick Bites.
These treats are marketed as being slaughter-free and having a reduced carbon footprint, with the remaining components being derived from plants.
Meatly Claims a Global First
Meatly asserts that this represents the first instance globally of cultivated meat being retailed specifically for pet food consumption, according to reports from The Guardian.
The company secured regulatory approval for this application last year, marking a European first in the field.
Chick Bites represent Meatly’s initial step in bringing Meatly Chicken – the name given to their bioreactor-grown meat – to market.
This initial production run stemmed from a single harvest of cells taken from a single chicken egg.
Future Plans for Scaling Production
Despite this initial offering being a “limited release,” indicating current production limitations, Meatly is actively focused on expanding its manufacturing capabilities.
The company’s stated goal is to increase product availability and make these innovative treats “more widely available to consumers.”
Further development will center on scaling up production to meet anticipated demand.
