Saquon Barkley Invests in and Stars in Ramp’s Super Bowl Commercial

Saquon Barkley, the prominent running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, has expanded his ventures beyond the football field. He has become an investor in the fintech company, Ramp, and will be featured as the central figure in their inaugural Super Bowl advertisement.

Initiating the Investment

Unusually, the initiative for investment came directly from Barkley, rather than Ramp approaching him for an endorsement. This demonstrates a proactive interest in the company’s mission.

According to Eric Glyman, Ramp’s CEO and co-founder, Barkley’s interest was sparked after reading Peter Thiel’s influential book, “Zero to One.” Positive recommendations from shared investors further solidified his decision to choose Ramp.

Barkley’s Statement on the Partnership

In a statement released on February 6th via Ramp’s blog, Barkley emphasized the importance of genuine commitment. He stated: “True partnership requires skin in the game. That’s why I invested in Ramp. I saw firsthand how they’re powering American businesses to cut costs and achieve a higher level of performance. That’s the kind of impact I want to be part of.”

Rapid Ad Creation

The 15-second Super Bowl commercial, depicting Barkley overwhelmed by expense reports, was developed and completed in an impressively short timeframe of just seven days, as noted by Glyman.

Ramp’s Growth and Services

Established in 2019, Ramp has quickly gained recognition within the corporate card and expense management sector. The company has broadened its offerings to include travel solutions, bill payment services, and more, achieving a recent valuation of $7.65 billion.

Barkley’s Broader Investment Portfolio

Ramp reports that Barkley’s investment represents his largest private technology investment to date. His investment portfolio also includes stakes in Monad Labs, a cryptocurrency startup, Sequin, a fintech company and Y Combinator graduate, and X2 Performance, a beverage company.

Super Bowl Matchup

The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 9th, featuring a contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
