User Scripts - Easily Enhance Your Websites

Enhancing Firefox with Greasefire: A User Script Finder
For both newcomers and experienced users of the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox, Greasefire offers a streamlined method for locating User Scripts tailored to your preferred websites. This eliminates the need for manual searches on userscripts.org.
Please note: The Greasemonkey extension is a prerequisite for using Greasefire. (Links to download are provided at the end of this article.)
Utilizing Greasefire
Initially, the “Right Click Menu” appears as standard when only Greasemonkey is installed.
After installing Greasefire, you can quickly determine if any scripts are available for a given website. The following image illustrates a scenario where no scripts were found.
Conversely, when scripts are present for a website, a noticeable change will occur in the “Status Bar Icon”.
A closer examination of the “Status Bar Icon” reveals that 310 scripts are available. Simply clicking the “# scripts available” text will display the available scripts.
Selecting “# scripts available” opens a new window, allowing you to browse the script list and view the “Details & Source” for each one. A “Ranking” is also provided for each script. In this example, we chose to install the “ice blue google skin” using the “Install Button Bar” located in the lower right corner.
Clicking the “Install Button Bar” presents a confirmation window. Here, you can proceed with the installation, review the script source code, or cancel the process.
A subsequent check of the “Right Click Menu” confirms the successful installation and activation of the new script.
Refreshing the search page demonstrates a change in the link color scheme, shifting away from the default blue.
Configuration Options
Greasefire’s settings are straightforward. You can specify the frequency (in days) for updating the user scripts index/database, or opt for manual updates at any time.
In Conclusion
Greasefire greatly simplifies the process of discovering and installing new user scripts for your frequently visited websites. It represents a valuable addition to any Firefox browser already equipped with Greasemonkey.
