Figma Acquires Weavy, an AI-Powered Media Generation Company
Figma has announced the acquisition of Weavy, a company specializing in AI-driven image and video creation. Following the acquisition, Weavy will operate under a new brand identity: Figma Weave.
Details of the Acquisition
The integration will bring 20 members of the Weavy team into Figma. Financial details regarding the deal’s valuation were not publicly disclosed. Weavy, based in Tel Aviv, was established in 2024.
The startup had previously secured $4 million in seed funding in June. This funding round was spearheaded by Entrée Capital, with additional investment from Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Micha Kaufman, the founder of Fiverr.
Initial Operation and Future Integration
Initially, Weavy will continue to function as a separate product. However, plans are in place to eventually integrate its capabilities fully into the broader Figma platform under the Figma Weave brand.
Weavy’s Capabilities
Weavy provides web-based tools that allow users to leverage and combine various AI models. These tools also offer professional-grade editing features.
Users can create high-quality images and videos suitable for product mockups and brand styling. The platform supports detailed editing, including layer adjustments, lighting modifications, and color/angle alterations, all driven by user prompts.
Workflow and Model Support
The creative process begins with a prompt for image generation on an expansive canvas. Users can then explore results from different models, select a preferred image, and subsequently add a prompt for video generation.
Multiple results from various models are presented, and users can refine the video’s appearance at any stage using the integrated editing tools. Designers have the flexibility to combine numerous prompts and models to achieve their desired outcome.
Weavy supports a diverse range of models, including Seedance, Sora, and Veo for video generation. For images, it offers Flux, Ideogram, Nano Banana, and Seedream.
Figma’s Perspective
“This node-based approach introduces a new degree of precision and control to AI generation,” stated Dylan Field, CEO of Figma. “Outputs can be branched, remixed, and refined, blending creative exploration with iterative design and craftsmanship.”
Field further emphasized the team’s success in balancing simplicity, accessibility, and power, noting that Weavy is a genuinely enjoyable tool to utilize.
Industry Trends
Demand for AI-powered design platforms is increasing, driven by the need for advanced media generation and streamlined design workflows.
Recently, Perplexity acquired the team behind Visual Electric, a design platform backed by Sequoia. Krea also announced $83 million in funding from investors like Bain Capital, a16z, and Abstract Ventures in April.
