Life360 Integrates Tile Trackers for Enhanced Family Safety
Life360 and Tile Fully Integrated After Over Three Years
More than three and a half years following Life360’s $205 million acquisition of Tile, the two services are now completely integrated. Life360 announced on Wednesday that Tile’s item-finding features, which provide competition to Apple’s AirTag and similar Bluetooth trackers, are now accessible directly within the primary Life360 application.
Combined Tracking Capabilities
This update allows users to monitor the real-time locations of both family members and their possessions, including wallets, keys, and bags. The integration aims to consolidate the user bases of both applications, encouraging Tile users to adopt Life360 as their central tracking platform.
The rollout of these integrated services began on Wednesday and is expected to be completed for all users within the coming weeks, according to a company representative who spoke with TechCrunch.
User Experience Changes
Tile users will soon receive a notification within their app guiding them to Life360. Simultaneously, Life360 users will find a new section dedicated to item tracking located beneath the existing sections for people and pets on the app’s Location tab.
When Tiles are in proximity to a Life360 family member, their locations will be displayed in real-time on the in-app map. Users can access up to two days of location history for lost items at no cost.
Subscription Benefits and SOS Features
Extended location history is available to subscribers. Specifically, Gold and Platinum members can view 30 days of history, while Silver members have access to the past seven days.
Furthermore, Silver members now benefit from emergency dispatch services through either the Tile SOS button or the Life360 app. It’s important to note that this functionality is currently limited to 2024 Tile devices.
Future Functionality and Domain Redirection
Life360 users will soon receive automatic push notifications when Tile-connected items are left behind. This feature is anticipated to be implemented in the weeks ahead.
Prior to this update, Life360 redirected the Tile.com domain to Life360.com.
Future of the Standalone Tile App
The company has not indicated any plans to discontinue the standalone Tile app at this time. However, once Tile’s functionality is fully replicated within Life360, maintaining both applications may become redundant. A spokesperson confirmed that the Tile app is not being retired “at this time.”
Integration Challenges and Competition
Life360 initially stated in 2022 that integrating Tile would create the largest finding network if all Life360 users adopted Tile. However, the delay in integration may have diminished this potential.
Moreover, competitors like Chipolo have introduced their own lost-item trackers that seamlessly integrate with both Apple and Google’s native finding networks.
User Base Statistics
While Life360 does not disclose the number of Tile app users, it reports that its primary Life360 app boasts 83.7 million global monthly active users, with 45.3 million located in the United States.
