Facebook Pays Creators for Story Views - New Monetization Feature

Facebook Enables Story Monetization for Creators
Facebook is now implementing a feature that allows content creators to generate revenue from views on publicly shared stories. This new monetization capability is being rolled out worldwide to creators currently participating in the Facebook Content Monetization Program.
Expanding Revenue Streams
This update provides creators with the opportunity to profit from content they are already creating and distributing through their Facebook stories. For instance, a creator who produces a recipe video or a short-form reel can share a portion of it within their story.
Earnings can also be generated by sharing story content that documents their daily experiences, mirroring their usual posting habits.
Payout Structure and Accessibility
According to a company representative who communicated with TechCrunch, story payouts are determined by content performance. Creators can begin earning revenue without needing to meet a predetermined view count threshold.
Strategic Incentive for Content Creation
By extending monetization to stories, Facebook aims to provide creators with an additional income source. This is intended to stimulate increased content creation activity on the platform.
This launch coincides with Meta's efforts to attract TikTok creators to Facebook and Instagram, offering financial incentives, content partnerships, and community growth support.
Activation and Program Details
Creators already enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization Program and who have activated content monetization do not need to take any further steps to enable story monetization.
Last year, Facebook consolidated its In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into a single Content Monetization Program.
Following a period of testing with a select group of beta users, the social network is now extending this monetization option to all program participants.
Program Expansion and Creator Earnings
Millions of creators received invitations to join the program in 2024, and Facebook intends to introduce open enrollment later this year.
Currently, creators not yet part of the program can register their interest in receiving an invitation via the program’s official website.
Facebook reported in October that creators earned over $2 billion on the platform in 2024. Payouts for Reels and other short-form videos experienced growth exceeding 80%.
Since the introduction of monetization features in 2017, Facebook has distributed payments to over 4 million creators.
