Facebook to Share All Videos as Reels | Social Media Update

Facebook to Consolidate Video Sharing into Reels
Facebook recently announced a significant shift in its video strategy. All videos uploaded to the platform will soon be automatically formatted and shared as reels, irrespective of their duration or aspect ratio.
Changes to Video Posting
Currently, Facebook users can share videos through traditional video posts and dedicated reels. This dual system will be phased out. The platform’s “Video” tab is also being rebranded as the “Reels” tab.
The company assures users that these changes will not impact the video recommendations they receive.
Simplified Publishing Flow
In the coming months, the process of sharing video content will be streamlined. Users will no longer need to select between uploading a standard video or creating a reel; all uploads will default to the reel format.
Furthermore, reels on Facebook will no longer be subject to existing length or format limitations. Previously, Facebook reels were capped at a maximum of 90 seconds.
Following Instagram’s Lead
This move mirrors a similar strategy implemented by Instagram, also owned by Meta, in 2022. Instagram began automatically converting video posts under 15 minutes into reels.
According to a Facebook blog post, the goal is to unify the video publishing experience. The update will provide access to a wider range of creative tools through a simplified process.
Users will also retain control over their audience settings, determining who can view their reels.
Potential User Concerns
This transition may present some challenges for certain users. The automatic conversion to the reel format could be inconvenient when posting horizontally oriented videos.
Some users may also prefer a separation between shorter and longer-form video content.
Audience Control and Settings
Default audience settings will be consistent across both the Facebook Feed and reels. When posting reels after the update, users will be prompted to confirm their desired audience: public, friends, or a custom group.
Continued Support for Diverse Video Content
Facebook emphasizes that the platform will continue to support a variety of video content types, including short-form reels, longer videos, and Live streams.
Global Rollout
The changes will be implemented gradually across the globe over the next several months, according to Facebook.
