Facebook Data Portability: Adds Photobucket & Google Calendar

Facebook Expands Data Portability Options
Facebook has revealed the addition of two new platforms to its data transfer service. Users can now migrate their images to Photobucket and their event listings to Google Calendar, as detailed in a recent company blog post.
Hadi Michel, a Product Manager at Facebook, stated that the data transfer tool has undergone a significant overhaul. The redesign focuses on enhancing simplicity and intuitiveness, providing users with a clearer understanding of their data sharing options.
Enhanced Transfer Capabilities
The updated tool allows users to initiate multiple data transfers simultaneously. This provides improved, granular control over the specific data included in each individual export.
This expansion builds upon the existing Data Transfer Project, a collaborative, open-source initiative spearheaded by Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.
Existing Data Transfer Destinations
Currently, Facebook users are able to transfer their photos to various services, including Google Photos. Additional supported platforms include Dropbox, Blogger, Google Documents, and WordPress.
This functionality is partially a response to the ongoing discussions surrounding the ACCESS Act. The proposed legislation aims to empower users to seamlessly transfer their data to any competing service.
Call for Clearer Data Protection Regulations
Facebook has also issued a call to action for governmental bodies. The company urges lawmakers to establish more definitive regulations regarding data protection responsibilities during transfers to different services.
