Transferring Your iGoogle Settings Between Accounts
For users who appreciate a personalized online experience, iGoogle offered a highly customizable homepage. If you’ve meticulously crafted your iGoogle setup with preferred RSS Feeds, themes, and gadgets, you may want to transfer these settings to another Google account.
Understanding iGoogle
iGoogle functioned as a customizable start page, featuring the Google Search bar alongside user-selected gadgets. A wide array of content could be integrated, including news updates, weather forecasts, Gmail notifications, stock market data, and feeds from various websites.
Furthermore, iGoogle allowed for the creation of custom gadgets and themes, as well as the organization of gadgets into multiple tabs.
Exporting Your iGoogle Configuration
Rebuilding a customized iGoogle homepage can be time-consuming. Fortunately, Google provided a method to export and save your settings. Begin by clicking "My Account" located in the upper right corner of the iGoogle homepage.
Within the "My Products" section, locate the "Settings" link associated with iGoogle and click on it.
Navigate to the bottom of the iGoogle Settings page. There, you will find an option to "Export iGoogle settings to your computer." Click this to initiate the export process.
The settings will be saved as an XML file. Choose a convenient location on your computer’s hard drive to store this file.
Importing Settings into a New Account
Once you’ve signed into the Google account where you wish to restore your iGoogle setup, return to the Settings page. At the bottom of this page, you’ll find an "Import" option.
Browse to the location where you saved the iGoogle XML file and select it. Click "Import" to begin the restoration process.
The import process is rapid. Upon completion, navigate to your iGoogle homepage. Your gadgets, themes, and settings will be restored, replicating your previous configuration. This simple procedure can significantly reduce the effort involved in switching between Google accounts.
