Anthropic AI Models Preferred by Enterprises | Outperforming OpenAI

Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI in Enterprise AI Model Market Share
Recent data indicates a significant shift in the enterprise artificial intelligence landscape. Anthropic’s AI models have become the preferred solution for businesses, now exceeding OpenAI in market share.
Market Share Shift
A report released by Menlo Ventures on Thursday reveals that Anthropic currently commands 32% of the enterprise large language model market, measured by usage. OpenAI follows as the second-largest stakeholder, holding 25% of the market.
This represents a notable change from previous trends. Over the past two years, OpenAI’s enterprise market share has experienced a considerable decline. Conversely, Anthropic’s share has demonstrated consistent growth during the same period.
Just two years prior, in 2023, OpenAI controlled 50% of the enterprise market, while Anthropic held only 12%.
Growth in Coding Applications
Google has also observed an increase in enterprise utilization of its AI models in recent years.
Anthropic’s dominance is even more pronounced in the realm of coding. The company currently holds a 42% share of the enterprise coding market, establishing a substantial lead over its competitors.
Enterprise adoption of Anthropic’s AI for coding tasks is more than double that of OpenAI, which currently accounts for 21% of the overall market share.
Key Model Releases Drive Adoption
The surge in Anthropic’s usage can be directly attributed to the release of its Claude 3.5 Sonnet model in June 2024, as highlighted in the Menlo Ventures report.
Further accelerating this momentum was the launch of Claude 3.7 Sonnet in February 2025.
Industry Trends and Consumer Usage
These findings corroborate industry observations suggesting a preference among enterprise and startup developers for Claude over OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Despite this shift, OpenAI maintains a strong position in the consumer market. The company recently reported that its users submit over 2.5 billion prompts to ChatGPT daily.
Preference for Closed Models
The Menlo Ventures report also indicates a strong preference for closed models among enterprises, a category utilized by both Anthropic and OpenAI.
Over half of the enterprises surveyed reported not utilizing open source models at all.
As of mid-year 2025, only 13% of enterprise daily workloads leverage open source models, a decrease from 19% at the beginning of the year.
Meta continues to hold a leading position within the open source AI market.
