Dataiku Launches Dataiku Online: A Managed Data Science Platform

Today marks the release of Dataiku Online, a new product extending the capabilities of the Dataiku platform. This offering provides a fully managed experience, eliminating the complexities associated with traditional setup procedures that often require dedicated system administrators and substantial infrastructure.

Understanding the Dataiku Platform

For those unfamiliar, Dataiku empowers users to transform raw data into actionable insights. It facilitates advanced analytics, data visualization, the creation of data-driven dashboards, and the training of machine learning models.

The platform is designed for a broad audience, including data scientists, business analysts, and individuals with limited technical expertise.

A Growing Customer Base

Dataiku has primarily served large enterprise clients, currently boasting a portfolio of over 400 customers.

Notable clients include prominent organizations such as Unilever, Schlumberger, GE, BNP Paribas, Cisco, Merck, and NXP Semiconductors.

Deployment Options: Expanding Flexibility

Previously, Dataiku offered two deployment methods: on-premise installation on a company’s own servers, and deployment on a cloud instance.

With Dataiku Online, a third option is now available, where the startup manages both the setup and underlying infrastructure.

Feature Parity and Target Audience

“Customers utilizing Dataiku Online will have access to the complete feature set available in our on-premises and cloud versions.

This encompasses everything from data preparation and visualization to sophisticated data analytics and machine learning functionalities,” explains Florian Douetteau, co-founder and CEO.

The company is particularly focused on attracting startups and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Douetteau notes a common misconception that smaller companies lack the resources or technical skills to benefit from AI projects, which he refutes.

Even teams without dedicated data scientists or machine learning engineers can leverage the platform to streamline complex technical tasks and concentrate on implementing AI solutions within their business.

Seamless Data Connectivity

Dataiku Online users can benefit from the platform’s pre-built connectors.

These connectors enable integration with popular cloud data warehouses like Snowflake Data Cloud, Amazon Redshift, and Google BigQuery.

Connections to SQL databases (including MySQL and PostgreSQL) are also supported, as is the ability to work directly with CSV files stored on Amazon S3.

Integration with Modern Data Stacks

For new users focusing on data ingestion, Dataiku integrates effectively with leading data ingestion services.

“A typical setup for our Dataiku Online customers involves utilizing data ingestion tools such as FiveTran, Stitch, or Alooma, which synchronize data to cloud data warehouses like Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, or Snowflake.

Dataiku seamlessly integrates into these modern data stacks,” Douetteau states.

Scalability and Long-Term Growth

Dataiku Online provides an accessible entry point for organizations to begin utilizing the platform.

Rapidly growing startups, often constrained by staffing limitations, can quickly become operational.

As companies expand, they have the option to transition to a cloud or on-premise Dataiku installation, while maintaining continuity for their employees on the same platform.
