Firefox Partial Match Autocomplete: Enable & Customize

Enhancing Firefox Address Bar Search with Autocomplete Manager

Do you frequently recall a webpage's name but struggle to remember its complete URL? Typically, this leads to browsing through browser history or re-performing a search. How can the address bar's search capabilities be improved for greater convenience?

The solution lies in the Autocomplete Manager extension. This tool significantly enhances functionality, offering partial matching against both the URL and the title of bookmarks or history entries.

Keyword Search in URLs and Titles

You can directly search for keywords within the URL itself, enabling matches against your browsing history or saved bookmarks. Alternatively, a search based on words present in the page title is also possible, a feature many users find particularly beneficial.

Customization Options

The extension provides numerous customization options. For example, you can disable the "matching anywhere" feature or prioritize the display of bookmarks in the completion suggestions.

Managing Extension History

A unique aspect of this extension is its independent history database. To clear the address bar history managed by the extension, you must access the History Manager tab.

Within the History Manager, click the "Retrieve" button and then proceed to remove all entries. Even after this process, a Firefox restart is required for the address bar to cease displaying results from the extension’s database.

For users who do not frequently clear their browsing history, this extension offers a seamless and effective solution. You can download Autocomplete Manager from Mozilla Add-ons.
