Impromptu Raises $2M to Simplify Enterprise AI App Development

Lessons Learned and the Launch of Empromptu

Shanea Leven highlights two crucial takeaways from her experience establishing CodeSee. The first involved discerning the actual requirements of businesses, as opposed to merely pursuing ambitious concepts. The second emphasized the enduring relevance of fundamental principles, even amidst advancements like AI.

She asserted that core aspects like security, compliance, reliability, and quality remain essential for enterprise-level applications, irrespective of technological shifts.

From CodeSee to Empowering Non-Technical Users

Following the acquisition of CodeSee in 2024, Leven focused on developing a product enabling business owners – even those lacking technical expertise – to construct AI applications. She partnered with AI researcher Sean Robinson, and together they introduced Empromptu last October.

Empromptu is an AI service designed to facilitate the creation of AI applications by businesses.

How Empromptu Works

The platform reportedly requires users to simply articulate their desired outcome to the AI chatbot – whether it's a new classification application or a generative recommendation system – and the tool will automatically build it.

Furthermore, Empromptu offers LLM (Large Language Model) tools for refining results and allows companies to integrate AI functionalities into their existing code.

Positioning in the Market

While acknowledging the value of "vibe coding" for rapid prototyping, Leven positions Empromptu as a tool for transforming those prototypes into fully functional software.

She describes Empromptu as a platform that converts concepts into production-ready features, complete with evaluation, governance, and continuous improvement mechanisms. It enables deployment to actual customers, utilizing real data and providing comprehensive control.

In essence, if "vibe coding" represents the brainstorming phase, Empromptu embodies the build process.

Recent Funding and Future Development

On Tuesday, the company announced the successful completion of a $2 million pre-seed funding round, spearheaded by Precursor Ventures.

Additional participants in the round included Zeal Capital, Alumni Ventures, FoundersEdge, and South Loop.

Leven stated that the newly acquired funds will be allocated to expanding the team and developing proprietary technologies.

The company also unveiled three new features: the ability to create custom data models and the implementation of infinite memory capabilities.

Target Industries and Vision

Empromptu aims to serve businesses operating in highly regulated sectors or those dealing with intricate data management and application development – such as software for the hospitality industry.

Leven’s overarching goal is to empower entrepreneurs to leverage the AI revolution without needing to acquire extensive technical skills.

She likens AI skill acquisition to any other skill, emphasizing that AI itself can assist in the learning process.
