Neuralink, the brain-computer interface venture spearheaded by Elon Musk, has successfully completed a $650 million funding round. This announcement was made via a company blog post released on Monday.
Investor Details
The Series E funding round saw participation from prominent investment firms. These include ARK Invest, Founders Fund, Sequoia Capital, and Thrive Capital, alongside other investors.
Previous Funding Rounds
Prior to this, Neuralink secured $280 million in a Series D funding round during 2023. An additional $43 million was added to this round in the subsequent months.
Technological Advancements
Since the Series D round, notable progress has been achieved in Neuralink’s brain chip technology. Significant advancements have been made in its development and capabilities.
Human Clinical Trials
The company reports having expanded its human clinical trials. Its brain chips have now been implanted in five individuals experiencing severe paralysis.
FDA Breakthrough Device Designation
In May, Neuralink was granted breakthrough device designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This designation is designed to accelerate the development and review of promising new technologies.
Company Valuation
According to a report from Semafor last week, this recent funding round establishes Neuralink’s pre-money valuation at approximately $9 billion.
