Einride Founder Steps Down as CEO - Electric Truck News

Einride CEO Robert Falck Steps Down, Roozbeh Charli Takes the Helm
Robert Falck, the originator of the electric and autonomous trucking firm Einride, is relinquishing his position as Chief Executive Officer. This transition occurs as the company concentrates on expanding its technological capabilities, securing additional funding, and evaluating a potential Initial Public Offering (IPO).
Falck will assume the position of executive chairman of the board. In this new capacity, he will dedicate his efforts to Einride’s overarching, long-term strategic direction.
New Leadership
Roozbeh Charli, previously Einride’s Chief Financial Officer, will immediately become the new chief executive. The company highlighted Charli’s instrumental role in establishing Einride’s operational framework and driving commercial growth throughout Europe and North America over the past five years.
Einride's Founding and Mission
Falck established Einride, marking his seventh entrepreneurial venture, in 2016. His core objective was to revolutionize the trucking sector, which is traditionally a significant contributor to carbon emissions.
His professional background is remarkably varied. Prior to Einride, he founded a startup focused on nightclub guest list management and also held the position of director of manufacturing engineering assembly at Volvo GTO Powertrain.
Falck has extensively discussed his vision for Einride with TechCrunch, outlining plans to disrupt the freight industry. This disruption will initially occur through the deployment of electric trucks, followed by the introduction of electric autonomous pods. These pods are specifically designed for self-driving operation, lacking traditional controls like steering wheels and pedals.
Transition and Future Plans
“Having spent nearly a decade leading as CEO, I believe the time is right to redirect my focus towards areas where I can deliver the greatest long-term impact,” Falck stated. “In my role as executive chairman, I will concentrate on the company’s overall strategy, including preparing Einride for a public offering when the timing is optimal.”
Charli expressed his commitment to continuing Falck’s established mission and facilitating the company’s responsible expansion beyond its current markets.
Current Operations and Financial Standing
Currently, Einride operates one of the largest fleets of heavy-duty electric trucks in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Its clientele includes prominent companies such as PepsiCo, Carlsberg Sweden, and DP World.
To date, Einride has secured $654.26 million in funding, according to PitchBook data. The company’s most recent publicly disclosed funding round was a $500 million raise in 2022.
In a recent conversation with TechCrunch in October, Falck indicated the need for further working capital – an additional $100 million – to position the company on a “good path forward” towards achieving profitability.
At that time, he also reported approximately $5 billion in contracted revenue and an estimated $50 million in annual recurring revenue for 2024.
