DoorDash Driver Faces Felony Charges for Spraying Customers' Food

DoorDash Delivery Incident Leads to Felony Charges

A woman is currently facing felony accusations in Evansville, Indiana, stemming from an incident involving a DoorDash delivery. She is alleged to have contaminated the delivered food with a substance causing severe illness to the customers.

Details of the Incident

On December 7th, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a man stating that he and his wife became violently ill after consuming fast food ordered via DoorDash. They experienced vomiting and a burning sensation throughout their mouths, noses, throats, and stomachs.

The affected customer informed NBC News that a reddish substance was observed on the delivery packaging. Review of their doorbell camera footage revealed a concerning sequence of events.

Evidence from Doorbell Camera

According to the sheriff’s department, the footage depicts the delivery driver, after completing the delivery and taking a photograph, spraying a substance towards the food. This was accomplished using a small aerosol can attached to her keychain.

Investigation and Suspect Identification

Detectives utilized DoorDash records to identify the suspect as Kourtney Stevenson, a resident of Kentucky. Stevenson reportedly stated to local police during a phone conversation that she was delivering for DoorDash while visiting her father.

She claimed the spray was used to eliminate a spider. However, investigators noted that the overnight temperature of 35 degrees Fahrenheit renders outdoor spiders inactive in Indiana, making it improbable for them to be present on exposed surfaces.

Arrest and Platform Ban

Following Stevenson’s refusal to cooperate with an in-person interview, detectives secured an arrest warrant. The charges include battery resulting in moderate injury and consumer product tampering.

She is presently awaiting extradition to Indiana to face these charges. DoorDash has confirmed that Stevenson has been permanently banned from their platform.

DoorDash's Response

A DoorDash spokesperson released a statement emphasizing the company’s stance on such behavior. They stated, “We have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior.”

The spokesperson further confirmed that Stevenson’s access to the platform has been permanently revoked and that they are fully cooperating with the ongoing law enforcement investigation.

Legal Representation

Reports from The New York Times and NBC News indicate that as of now, it remains unclear whether Kourtney Stevenson has retained legal counsel to represent her in this matter.

Important Note: This incident highlights the importance of food safety and the potential consequences of intentional contamination.
