DJI Mavic 3 Drone Leak: Camera Improvements & 46-Minute Flight Time

DJI Mavic 3 Pro: Anticipated Improvements and Specifications
According to information obtained by The Verge from DroneDJ and Jasper Ellens, DJI is poised to release a substantial upgrade to its drone lineup with the Mavic 3 Pro. Leaks suggest a considerable extension in flight duration, alongside the inclusion of not one, but a dual-camera system. This system will feature both a telephoto lens and a camera incorporating a larger Four Thirds sensor.
Dual-Camera System and Sensor Details
Previously, the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom required users to select between a larger sensor or a zoom capability equivalent to 24-48mm. The Mavic 3 Pro is expected to integrate both functionalities into a single drone. It will reportedly utilize two distinct cameras.
- A 20-megapixel primary camera with a 24mm f/2.8-f/11 lens and a Four Thirds sensor.
- A 12-megapixel secondary camera, equipped with a 1/2-inch sensor and a telephoto lens offering a 160mm equivalent.
Enhanced Features and Performance
A convenient feature will be the inclusion of direct USB-C charging, eliminating the need for battery removal. While these enhancements will result in a slight weight increase – from 907g in the Mavic 2 Pro to 920g in the Mavic 3 Pro – the benefits are significant.
Despite the added weight, the Mavic 3 Pro is projected to achieve a flight time of 46 minutes. This represents a substantial improvement over the 31 minutes offered by the Mavic 2.
Model Variations and Connectivity
The Mavic 3 will be available in two versions: a Pro model and a Cine model. The Cine version will boast a built-in Solid State Drive (SSD) and an optional “1Gbps Lightspeed Data Cable” for accelerated data transfer speeds.
Furthermore, a new iteration of DJI’s Smart Controller, featuring an integrated display, will be offered. This controller will facilitate video transmission over a distance of up to 15km, an increase from the 10km range of the Mavic 2 Pro.
Pricing and Availability
Both sources indicate that the Mavic 3 Pro will be priced at $1,600, mirroring the current cost of the Mavic 2 Pro. Pricing for the Cine model remains less definitive, but estimates suggest a potential cost of approximately $1,000 more.
The anticipated release date for both models is November 15th.
