Integrating Google Calendar with Windows Vista Calendar

Windows Vista features an integrated calendar application that offers useful functionality. However, for users who prefer Google Calendar, the ability to view their Google Calendar within a desktop client is highly desirable.

Subscribing to Your Google Calendar

To accomplish this, Vista’s calendar application allows users to “Subscribe” to external calendars. This process enables seamless synchronization of events.

First, you must obtain the iCal link associated with your Google Calendar. Navigate to Settings, then select Calendars within Google Calendar.

Locate and view the “Private Address” section within your calendar’s settings.

Right-click on the provided ICAL link and select "Copy Shortcut" to transfer the link to your system’s clipboard.

Adding the Calendar in Windows Vista

Open the Windows Calendar application and click the Subscribe button located on the toolbar.

Paste the copied URL into the provided textbox, then click the Next button to proceed.

A subsequent screen will appear, which may take some time to load.

On this screen, carefully select the desired Update interval. This setting determines how frequently the calendar will automatically synchronize with Google Calendar.

You can also assign a more recognizable name to the calendar for easier identification.

Finalizing the Integration

The integration is now complete. Appointments originating from Google Calendar will be visually distinguished, often appearing in a different color – in this case, blue – within the Windows Calendar interface.

This allows for a unified view of all scheduled events, combining the convenience of a desktop client with the functionality of Google Calendar.
