This guidance is intended for novice users. Windows XP, by its default configuration, conceals crucial system files and directories. This is a protective measure designed to prevent accidental deletion of essential components.

To make these concealed files visible, initiate the Control Panel application. Subsequently, locate and double-click the Folder Options entry.

Within the Folder Options window, navigate to the View tab. Then, select the radio button corresponding to "Show hidden files and folders".

Upon returning to Windows Explorer, you will observe additional folders that were previously inaccessible. These are the files and folders that were hidden by default.

Accessing Protected Operating System Files

For users interested in advanced configuration or system-level modifications, a further option is available. Examining the list within Folder Options reveals a checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files".
