GV's MG Siegler on Portfolio Management & Storytelling - Extra Crunch Live

M.G. Siegler possesses extensive knowledge of early-stage investing and the startup landscape. As a general partner at GV, he has directly invested in a number of rapidly growing companies during their initial phases, notably including Anchor, Slack, Medium, and Stripe. His background also includes experience as a TechCrunch contributor and as a web developer within a startup environment. We are pleased to announce that Siegler will be joining us to discuss his investment insights and how his earlier career in writing has shaped his views on startup achievement on Extra Crunch Live today at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT.
Siegler’s involvement with startups began in 2005, where he worked as a web developer at an agency specializing in technology clients. He subsequently covered startups as a reporter for both VentureBeat and TechCrunch, before becoming a founding partner at CrunchFund and ultimately joining GV (formerly Google Ventures) with a focus on companies in their early stages. Beyond the companies previously mentioned, Siegler has also spearheaded investments in other thriving early-stage ventures such as Universe, Giphy, The Players’ Tribune, CTRL-Labs, and AltspaceVR.
When the current global pandemic began, Siegler engaged in a conversation with our own Lucas Matney regarding GV’s investment in mobile website-builder Universe and the adjustments to portfolio management necessitated by travel restrictions and social distancing measures. We will learn from Siegler how the subsequent months of navigating life and work during COVID-19 have altered his outlook and impacted the early-stage companies he is involved with and evaluating for potential investment.
Furthermore, Siegler offers a distinctive viewpoint and considerable experience concerning early-stage startups and effective communication. His journalistic work centered on analyzing new and developing technology companies and evaluating their capacity to articulate their goals, the challenges they address, and the technology they are creating. He applies this expertise to his evaluation of the investment viability of startups and their leadership, as well as their ability to present compelling narratives about their work and its purpose.
These subjects, along with questions from our audience, will be covered. If you are an Extra Crunch member, please join us to stay informed about the latest developments in fintech. If you are not currently a member, we encourage you to explore subscription options before the session begins.
Details for joining the meeting are available after the paywall.
