Disable Windows Sidebar in Vista - How To Guide

Removing the Windows Vista Sidebar
Many users find the Windows Sidebar, a feature introduced in Windows Vista, to be unnecessary or aesthetically unappealing. Fortunately, the process of disabling it is quite straightforward.
Disabling Sidebar Startup
To prevent the sidebar from automatically launching with Windows, a simple settings adjustment is required. Begin by right-clicking either directly on the sidebar itself or on its corresponding icon.
From the context menu that appears, select the "Properties" option. This will open the sidebar's settings window.
Within the Properties window, locate and uncheck the box labeled "Start Sidebar when Windows starts." This action ensures the sidebar will not initiate upon system boot.

Closing the Sidebar
After disabling the startup option, the currently running sidebar instance needs to be closed. Again, right-click on the sidebar icon.
This time, choose "Exit" from the context menu. This will immediately close the sidebar application.

With these steps completed, the Windows Sidebar will no longer appear, and it will remain disabled upon subsequent system restarts. The unwanted feature has been successfully removed.
