Disable Autoplay - Audio CDs & USB Drives

Eliminating Autoplay in Windows

It can be quite frustrating to repeatedly encounter the autoplay window when connecting an external hard drive to your laptop after a day's work. This prompt appears, requesting action regarding the files present. While tolerable initially, this becomes tiresome over time.

Accessing the Autoplay Configuration

To modify this behavior, access the Group Policy settings. Begin by opening the Run dialog box via the Start Menu. Then, type the following command:

gpedit.msc

This will launch the Group Policy window. Navigate through the tree view to locate the following path: Administrative Templates \ System.

Within the right-hand pane, you will find an option labeled "Turn off Autoplay".

Double-click this item to open its configuration settings.

Select the "Enabled" radio button. Subsequently, change the setting for "Turn off Autoplay on" to "All Drives".

This adjustment ensures that autoplay is disabled for all connected storage devices.

With these changes implemented, you should no longer be bothered by the autoplay feature.
