Speed Up Internet Explorer 9: Disable Add-Ons

Optimizing Internet Explorer Performance by Managing Add-ons
Similar to modern browsers like Firefox and Chrome, Internet Explorer’s functionality can be extended through the use of add-ons. However, an excessive number of these extensions can negatively impact browser speed and potentially lead to instability or crashes.
Fortunately, Internet Explorer provides a straightforward method for disabling add-ons, either individually or collectively, to restore optimal performance.
Accessing the Add-on Management Tools
First, ensure the Command bar is visible. If it isn’t currently displayed, simply right-click within an empty space on the tab bar. Then, select Command bar from the context menu that appears.
With the Command bar activated, click the Tools button. From the dropdown menu, navigate to Toolbars and then select Disable add-ons.
Disabling and Monitoring Add-ons
The Choose Add-ons dialog will then be presented. This window displays a list of all currently enabled add-ons, along with the loading time each one requires when Internet Explorer starts.
To deactivate a specific add-on, simply click the Disable button located to its right. Alternatively, you can disable all add-ons at once by selecting the Disable All option at the bottom of the dialog box.
Instead of disabling add-ons entirely, you can configure Internet Explorer to notify you when the cumulative delay caused by add-ons exceeds a specified duration. Select a desired time value from the provided dropdown menu.
Finally, click Done to close the dialog box and apply your changes.
Re-enabling Add-ons
Should you wish to re-enable add-ons in the future, access the management tools by clicking Tools on the Command bar, then selecting Toolbars and finally Manage add-ons.
The Manage Add-ons dialog box will appear, categorizing add-ons by type on the left-hand side. Click a category to view the installed add-ons within it.
To enable a previously disabled add-on, select it from the list and click the Enable button.
In some instances, enabling an add-on may prompt a dialog box regarding related extensions. Confirm your choice by clicking Enable.
It’s important to remember that a larger number of installed add-ons can contribute to browser instability and an increased risk of crashes. By managing your add-ons effectively, you can maintain a smoother and more reliable browsing experience.
