CCleaner v2.06 and the Yahoo Toolbar: A Closer Look

A recent encounter involved the latest version of CCleaner, specifically v2.06, which now bundles the Yahoo Toolbar during installation. The stated purpose of this inclusion is to enable access to CCleaner’s functionality directly from a browser toolbar.

It’s becoming increasingly common for software companies to integrate their applications into widely-used freeware programs. This practice was previously discussed in a prior article.

Installation and Initial Observations

For testing purposes, CCleaner v2.06, complete with the Yahoo toolbar, was installed. Prior to this, Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 was designated as the default browser.

While the toolbar does facilitate running CCleaner from within the browser, its overall necessity is questionable. The addition of extra toolbars is generally undesirable, and the Yahoo toolbar is no exception.

Users who are dedicated to Yahoo’s services and desire convenient access to them during web browsing might find the Yahoo toolbar beneficial. It provides easy access to a range of Yahoo applications.
